Meltech’s coiling and handling solutions cover a range of applications. There are a number of common themes to our design standards: our proprietary control technology calculates the precise tensioning of the wire during winding; the control system features a selection of ‘recipes’ which allows operators to select easily the correct winding pitch and reel size for a particular metal or plastic profile; and machines are available either semi- or fully automatic.  Our team of engineers and technical experts work closely with customers to ensure that the solution we supply, whether standard or bespoke, accurately meet their needs in all respects.

Cable & Wire
The highly competitive nature of cable and wire manufacturing makes a powerful case for automated take up and pay off machines. Meltech multi-reel machines are designed for continuous coiling of data communications and LAN cables, general wiring and heat shrink and wire tubing applications. These machines offer accurate winding profiles, enabling a smoother pay off for faster operation without risk of tangles and snags.

Offering speeds up to 1,500 metres per minute, our coiling and winding machines provide improved winding control, layering, and speed and length control at point of changeover, compared with manual winding. Available in drum sizes from 400mm to 1,600mm, Meltech machines can be readily integrated into an existing production line.

Metals
Meltech designs and manufactures automated coiling and winding systems for extruded metal products at up to 150 metres per minute.  Our equipment is able to coil continuously at full production speed even during transfer of the tube or profile to another reel for coiling, while a full reel is removed. It allows extrusion machines to operate at faster speeds, maximising extrusion throughout, whilst providing accurate layering of extruded profiles.

Automated winding of extrusion profiles comes into its own when handling continuous multi-rod extrusions. The ability to continuously wind multiple tubes of complex profiles highlights the productivity benefits over manual handling. Add to this the opportunity to use multiple die heads, and to handle multiport tubes, and the case for automated winding is difficult to ignore.

Plastics Coiling Machinery
Working closely with its customers Meltech has designed innovative plastics coiling solutions which have boosted productivity and increased profitability.

Designed for plastic pipes and profiles, as well as complex profiles such as those used in a wide range of markets including food packaging, agriculture and medical equipment, Meltech machines are high speed, twin head winding machines capable of up to 400m per minute.

In semi automated operation the operator manually removes the full reel and replaces it with an empty reel. When fully automated the winding system allows automatic changeover of the winding reels, ensuring continuous production of extruded plastics. It also allows plastics manufacturers to use reels far bigger than those that could be handled by an operator.  For our customers who produce multiple products, automated winding comes into its own. The Meltech machines are able to offer continuous winding of multiple profiles, enabling significant productivity benefits compared with manual handling.

Readily integrated within plastic extrusion operations, Meltech machines feature touch screen PLC control and are reliable and easy-to-use. Reel sizes start at 300mm.  A bespoke engineering service is also available.
